Iris Bouwmeester – Jan van Hoof Galerie

Every artist kneads their own cosmos: an evolving, pliable universe of images and ideas in which anything must be possible. For decades, artist and sculptor Iris Bouwmeester has been building her own vision. Her sculptures and drawings bear witness to an unstoppable creative drive—powerful images that mirror the primal forces and vital growth of nature and Mother Earth.

With her iridescent use of colour and her wild, exotic forms, Bouwmeester inevitably provokes a physical response. Organic natural shapes seem to expand or contract; holes, curves and protrusions draw the viewer into hidden depths. These spaces are often wondrous and enchanting, at other times slightly unsettling. One thing is certain: her works leave an intense and lasting impression on the retina.
