Auke de Vries is a well-known visual artist both in our country and abroad. He builds his metal objects into light, almost floating constructions, composed of lines and geometric forms such as cones, cubes, cylinders and planes. He often uses architectural forms reminiscent of birdhouses or tree houses. With his large sculptures for public space, the artist tries to connect street, architecture and infrastructure. Initially Auke de Vries mainly worked on commission, from the 1990s he also makes free work that sometimes serves as a preliminary study for his monumental sculptures. This led to museum exhibitions in, among others, the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam and at the Museum Beelden aan Zee.
