Arthur Stam – Contempo

In a layered and lush technique, Arthur Stam creates works that combine realist, romantic, and surreal elements. His mixed-media works and paintings are figurative and offer a contemporary variation on the “genre scene,” depicting the working human in their everyday environment.

Arthur’s work is varied, yet recurring themes are clearly present: a person in their workshop, stage builders behind the scenes, shipbuilding, a gardener in an allotment garden. A curious part of his oeuvre consists of several small-scale viewing boxes of living and working spaces featuring the industrious human figure. Ouders van nu (“Parents of Today”) is his most recent viewing box, in which the artist’s studio takes centre stage.
