In the lead-up to KunstRAI 2026, we will be speaking with a number of participating galleries over the coming weeks. In a series of short interviews, gallery owners offer insight into their programme, their vision, and the artists they will present at the fair this year. This week we speak with Margot Landeweerd, gallery director of Galerie Mokum. In five questions, she talks about her gallery, her perspective, and the work that will be on view during the upcoming edition of KunstRAI.
Galerie Mokum can be found at stand number 36 during KunstRAI.
Enjoy the read and have a wonderful Sunday!
What is the programme of the gallery?
Galerie Mokum focuses on contemporary figurative art, with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, personal visual language, and timeless themes. We present artists who combine tradition and a contemporary perspective in their own distinctive ways.
Which artists will be presented at KunstRAI?
At KunstRAI we will present, among others, Antonio Barahona, Lavely Miller and Rebecca Orcutt, together with several other artists from the gallery’s programme.
Why did you choose this selection of artists?
The selection shows different approaches to figuration, ranging from intimate, contemplative paintings to more narrative or compelling works. What connects these artists is their strong technical foundation and their ability to translate contemporary stories and personal emotions into recognisable imagery.
What makes you continue to enjoy working with artists to this day?
Working with artists remains inspiring because each artist has a unique way of looking at the world. Being closely involved in the process of ideas, experimentation, and development makes the work very dynamic and continuously surprising.
Which artist(s) have been important to you in sparking your passion for art?
My fascination with art mainly stems from artists who approach figuration in a personal and innovative way. Artists such as Edward Hopper and Antonio Lopez deeply resonate with me; they have shown how powerful and timeless figurative painting can be.
