13:00 – Job Kühlkamp, NUT, Mart Veldhuis, artist and Esther Koch, KochxBos Gallery – Panel discussion Up Next in Art: Value of art, Sculpture Square
What role does art play in visualizing the often invisible systems around money, property and inequality? This question goes beyond the familiar functions of art, such as aesthetics, criticism and agenda-setting, and raises another: How does art help us think about value, wealth and the impact of money on everyday life?
14:00 and 15:00 (English) – Michel Scholte, Impact Institute/ True Price and Bouke de Vries, climate finance expert engage in conversation, instalation Wealth Shown to Scale, entrance via booth 8
In this conversation, inequality takes centre stage: we discuss examples of income inequality, its impact on climate problems, and the connection with our ecological footprint. We also explore alternatives: how can we design the economic system to be fairer and more sustainable, with an emphasis on long-term thinking? And why is imagination essential in this?
Michel Scholte is involved in Rotterdam’s ‘A Bridge Too Far’ initiative, which arose in response to plans to temporarily dismantle the historic Koningshaven bridge, better known as De Hef, for the passage of Jeff Bezos’ superyacht. A co-founder of True Price and the Impact Institute, and a social entrepreneur and activist, Scholte spoke out against these plans. In the end, the permit was not granted and the ship was finished at another yard.
