19:00 lecture Pim Velthuizen: “My digital images arise slowly. First in my mind. Then I build up each image in the computer, in sometimes as many as 100 layers. I draw with a drawing tablet and use my own photos. Eventually, the distinction between what I draw and the photos is no longer recognisable. I spend several weeks on one image until everything falls into place. Thanks to the computer, I can work very precisely and in great detail. My sources of inspiration are Western and Eastern mystical ideas: the idea that everything is animated with consciousness and that everything is interconnected and in continuous development. Panta rhei. According to those mystical traditions, we can only move forward with compassion. This is why I have chosen “Thoughts on Compassion for Compassion” as the overarching motto for my work. Still…briefly: stillness is what my works are about, even if I sometimes use intense colours. The stillness in my work is about the idea of connection, of unity. ‘Seeing the one in all and everything in the one’. To recognise that, it is said, you need the “Voice of Silence””.
19:30 lecture Maartje Roos on the origins of her work: fine art photography. ‘It fascinates me, precisely in the medium of photography that is so attached to the visible of reality, to look for ways to show the invisible such as the distant past or, conversely, the future.’
Simonis & Buunk
Teo van den Brink of Simonis & Buunk talks to art historian Karin Haanappel in ‘Herstory of Art’. They let us experience a very different world, a world that includes women and in which non-Western and prehistoric cultures also prove to be important. By starting with the earliest art expressions in the Old Stone Age and then charting the women artists through the centuries, Karin knows better than anyone else how to outline her story of art alongside his story of art. The focus is mainly on Europe and more specifically, the Netherlands, making it visible that, from the very beginning, art was made by people: men and women.

MEET & GREET with Danni Schwaag about the work “Coagulated” she made last summer during an Artist in Residence. She worked with one of the first plastics – called galalite – which has, among other things, residual milk products as its base. She entered the third floor, third room, on the left, DG004. Industrial monument Jakob Bengel. Galalithgalalalalaland of milk and honey. Solidified coloured milk in the form of bars, pipes, plates – hundreds! Danni Schwaag conveys material and formal language in her work by playfully exploring the properties of the material. She is driven by the fascination of colours and (of) materials, which has a relationship with time and history. Expressive colourfulness releases extra energy. The possibilities seem endless. By observing, playing, arranging, discarding and reorganising, she creates compositions that can be abstract or figurative.
MEET & GREET with Afke Golsteijn of the high-profile Dutch artist duo Idiots (Afke Golsteijn, Floris Bakker) about the work PAPIERWERK and SLANGENKUILEN. In recent years, Idiots have found their medium in dried plant structures, large pieces of tree bark, huge packs of moss and paper. As ever, the form is lyrical, colourful and lavish. The message, however, is unabatedly committed. With the butterfly (symbol of transformation, death and rebirth) and the snake (symbol of good and evil, of life and death) as protagonists, this artist duo reminds us that all life, digital, analogue, human, plant and animal are inextricably and endlessly connected. Man’s constructed network – in the embodiment of plastic cables and metal wickerwork – is only a small part of the infinitely knotted structure called planet earth. The human need to want to fathom (and control) the world is like the snake biting its tail. An eternal repetition of moves, beautifully depicted by this magnificent Dutch artist duo.
Galerie LUCIA NOVALIS
Erica Welling gives a presentation on colour theory and in particular Goethe’s colour theory.
Selma Dronkers: Artist at sea: To be in wild nature is to go outside. Once there, nature actually invites turning inwards. Back on land in the studio, the individual becomes universal in the process-oriented drawings. Moving with the constant change at sea has many parallels with the process of creation of the drawings. Selma Dronkers is happy to discuss the deeper layers of this process with you during the artist night.
Ten Haaf Projects

19:30 Artist Talk: Kika Notten talks about her experience as Artist in Residence on Vancouver Island (Canada) and how this period dramatically influenced her work. During her stay on the island, she began to perceive the details in the overwhelming nature better and better and felt how everything is interconnected. Back in her studio, she started working out her observations on paper and thus created an ever-growing series of drawings that together form a new universe, in which fantastic mushrooms, mosses, fungi and shells play the leading role.
